Tom Mix The Crushing Empire

Tom Mix helps bring down a town commercial monopoly headed up by the crooked Petigrew family. While the premise of this story is plausible several plot incidences are hard to believe.  One is why wasn't Tom Mix disarmed by the crooks when he was ambushed in the Pitch Mountain Tunnel? Also why didn't young Petigrew simply shoot and kill Mix instead of going to the physically exhausting and time consuming effort of sealing him into a rock niche? Nyoka The Perilous Journey

Nyoka once again shows her golden heart in helping river boat Captain Derry make a cargo run when he becomes injured. The spunky brunette out foxes the evil gun runners with the help of her quick wits and Jumbo, the Zebraphant (apparently another one of those pesky jungle hybrids). Script by Rod Reed (? GCD) and art by Al Jetter (? GCD).

Master Comics #126 (February 1952- "Ozzie")

Here we find Ozzie minus Babs. Apparently she had enough of her bungling boy friend. This actually is quite a humorous story in a Three Stooges sort of way. Some of the gags like Ozzie dressing in drag are standard but are nevertheless funny. Mr Vandergrift is correct that Ozzie is a "brainless idiot" after jumping into washing machine to clean up. This comic strip is about the level of a Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd cartoon--goofy funny.

Master Comics #126 (February 1952- The Panther Man)

 Happy New Year

This is a story of revenge. It is difficult not to have some sympathy for Panther Man who is on a mission of vengeance. He is after the hunters who killed the Panther Queen (perhaps his mate). Apparently the Panther Man is some strange human/panther hybrid. The issue of justice is somewhat muddled at the end. CapJr comments, "Since he's only partly human, I don't know what the authorities are going to do about him. I do know, they'll mete out the right kind of justice!" Art by Sheldon Moldoff. GCD has Bill Ward as artist.

Tom Mix The Witch of Shallow Gulch

Here Tom Mix, playing a adventurous and civic-minded cowpoke, helps out the law in dealing with an ambush scam committed by an opportunistic stranger. The artwork by
Carl Pfeufer and John Jordan is serviceable and gets the job done. The cemetery scenes allow the artists to get away from the mundane town setting and use graveyards shapes and colors.

Ozzie and Babs

This is one of the better Ozzie and Babs stories I've read. Ozzie-goof ball that he is-takes a lot of hits from the opposition girl's baseball team but holds his own against his Reggie-like rival Slick. In the end he is rewarded with Bab's admiration and delicious junk food. What more could a teenager by want?
